I know how it is to start something new it can seem very overwhelming in the beginning because it is feeling this sensation of powerlessness and trust me – it is uncomfortable!
Four years ago, I was in a place in my life where I just had enough of my toxic lifestyle because I started to notice that my energy level felt depleted, I was unhappy with my physical appearance and unsatisfied of what I was doing in my life.
I gained clarity when I came back from a solo trip that I took for eight months. I went through a personal transformation of who I was as a person. When I came back home, I knew I had to do something about it to continue this personal journey of mine.
I knew the one thing that I had to take care of was my health.
I was motivated to start, but I had no idea how to implement this new lifestyle that I wanted to take on.
The question I asked myself was “How can I become this new healthy version of me?”
I answered quickly, CHANGE MY ENVIRONMENT.
Our environment plays a big role in our daily lives. Have you ever heard of the saying “Proximity = Power” The reason why is because when we spend the majority of time with people (family, friends, co-workers etc..), we start to collect habits from them. For example, when we hang out with our friends - have you noticed that we start to pick up the language they use, and it starts to rub off on us by saying the same words as they do.
Remember when your parents use to say to you “be careful of whom you choose to spend your time with” They would reference this because the people who we decide to spend most of our time with is going to influence you.
Therefore, carefully choose your circle of five who you spend time with the most because that determines your mindset and habits. A successful person surrounds with other successful people. An alcoholic person hangs out with other fellow alcoholics.
Get the picture?
In my situation at the time, I wanted to get fit and implement a new healthy lifestyle and have a healthy relationship with food.
I signed up at a gym called KAIA, which is intended for women only who supports a plant-based lifestyle.
THIS GYM CHANGED MY LIFE!
I committed to a 6- Week Bootcamp where it combined eating healthy and exercising five days a week.
KAIA was my strategy to kick-start the new healthy habit that I wanted to achieve in my life.
The reason why is because;
1. I surrounded myself with other women who had the same goal as me.
2. I was committed to my reason why
3. I had a daily reminder to remember my new habit (vision board, whiteboard with my goals, a calendar filled up with a planned schedule)
4. I had a routine that was already done for me, thanks to the gym all I had to do was SHOW UP.
5. I rewarded myself after the 6 Weeks of the program – to tell my subconscious that I DID IT! (Such as buying myself new workout clothes, new gym shoes, etc…)
Whatever it is that you want to create in your life such as working out, meal prepping or starting a new meditation practice, etc. Remember these key rules.
- Your reason why – The Motivator
- The THREE R’s (Reminder, Routine & Reward)
I encourage you to try this strategy and STEP UP!
Upgrade your standards. Embody the version who you want to be. Act like it is already done. Be thankful for all the lessons and blessings. And So it is.FRE
Love & Gratitude,
